Dragon Flies Are Kool

They move so very fast and rarely alight on anything--I was very lucky to get such a good shot. I like the four wings and six legs. They are so beautiful with their interesting colors and patterns. This is the adult of the DRAGONFLY. Dragonflies and damselflies look similar--the way to tell the dragonfly from the damselfly is that dragonflies rest with their wings open and flat, their body is a lot thicker and their eyes are close together.

KOOL FACT...
...dragonflies are older than dinosaurs! 300 million years ago the dragonfly's ancestor was flying around with a three foot wingspan. Dinosaurs are only 150 million year old.

This is the nymph of a dragon fly (probably NOT the same as above) that lives in the water. They spend 90-95% of their life in the water. The dragonfly goes through a few stages of growth before it turns into the adult. After the nymph stage, it turns into a larva and then hatches out into the adult.
